Notice to Quit may now be served by e-mail

A recent amendment to the Michigan Summary Proceedings Act allows service of a demand for possession, also known as a notice to quit, by electronic transmission, as long as the tenant has consented to service by electronic transmission.  “Electronic transmission” is defined as the transmission of a document by electronic means to the electronic serviceaddress at or through which a person has authorized electronic service.

Service can be by either attaching a copy of the document to the e-mail, or by providing in the e-mail a link from which the document can be downloaded.
